We want Boekestijn to be a place where people can learn, grow, share knowledge and be inspired to keep getting better.
The very beginning
Boekestijn Transport was founded in 1994, when our first customer booked their first shipments with us to Eastern Europe. Converting a bedroom into our office with a computer and a phone (unusual for that time), marked the start.
3 more trucks and trailers purchased
At the start of the year, the first order for 3 trucks was made with DAF. In the picture you can see Arno, Hermien and Peter Boekestijn closing the deal! Friends became colleagues as they joined Boekestijn, becoming our first drivers heading to Eastern Europe.
Eastern European Experts
Extra trucks were purchased to facilitate our growing business with new customers and the increasing demand from Pepsi. Word spread quickly that Boekestijn Transport were providing excellent service and expertise on Eastern European routes.
Expansion in Mill and Pniewy
We opened our first real office in Mill, the Netherlands. Next to the office we built a workshop to repair and maintain our trucks and trailers and a warehouse to cross-dock goods. We also opened a base in Pniewy - our first Polish office. Our Dutch drivers became Western European experts, while our Polish drivers excelled to the East
Celebrating a good Turn of the Century
A good start for Boekestijn Transport in the first year of the new millennial. More and more small businesses established themselves in this year. Therefore more transport was needed around Europe. We gained a lot of new customers this year and celebrated it with 50 new trucks.
A year in Racing
This year Boekestijn Transport was becoming more and more well-known as a transporter in Europe. The Ferrari formula one team called us. They asked if we can transport the special Shell fuel to the circuits throughout Europe.
Becomind a Niche Market Specialist
We started looking for new niche-markets to continue growing, specializing in High Value and Pharma shipments, we also trialed the Scandinavian market. Later, adding Fashion to our specialist portfolio, Boekestijn Transport was now set for future success.
Poland joins the EU
After Poland joined the EU in 2004, our Polish trucks were able to deliver throughout Europe without additional licenses. Our Polish office provided the support, required to service these new market opportunities within Europe.
The Start of Trucking
In these years, other companies too saw opportunities for our Polish trucks as they themselves couldn't find drivers. We started offering a service, where we promised a truck and driver with the customer providing the trailer & the shipments. The trucking department was born
Start of Boekestijn Fashion Logistics
In 2007 we acquired R&W Fashion Transport. With offices in the Netherlands and Macedonia, it was a great addition to our already existing fashion business and it allowed us to grow our Balkan business.
Action, Reaction, Crisis & Growth
The financial crisis negatively impacted the transport market, with daily cancellations and business struggles. We had to ground 25% of our fleet and make tough decisions. To sustain all jobs, Arno and Peter took the brave decision to grow in a declining market. This provided sufficient revenues to get the company through the storm. We acquired Interlog and Eijfferts, supplying us with additional customers in these difficult times.
The Start of Boekestijn Moldova
By analysing the transport market we could see the major driver shortage in West and Central Europe coming. To be prepared, we opened a new office and driver school in Chisinau, Moldova. Having a new inflow of competent drivers allowed us to grow our business while maintaining the high quality standards our customers expected
Opening, Opening & Opening
Besides moving to a big new office in Gądki, we also opened new offices in other countries including Oberhausen in Germany. This was a good location to start our German domestic transport business while providing our drivers with a nice base when they are away from home. Next up our new office in Dublin, as well as an office in Brest to find local subcontractors in Belarus. It was also a time that the Mill HQ got a complete make-over, stating a new standard of triple-A offices within Boekestijn.
Milestones and Awards
Our fleet number surpassed 250 trucks while the number of employees has grown to over 500. We also drove our 100,000,000th kilometer! In 2019 we celebrated our 25th birthday and are a well known European transporter. This led to awards for the top 3 best NL-PL business, Lean and Green and High security Tapa
The Loss of Arno Boekestijn
Having reached 25 years in business, it is with great sadness that Boekestijn Transport's co-founder and Director, Arno Boekestijn, passed away suddenly from a heart attack, two weeks before our planned celebrations. A sad turning point in the history of Boekestijn Transport. More than ever before, colleagues pull together to make sure Arno's legacy lives on. The anniversary was held in private to honor and celebrate what Arno, together with Everybody around him, build over the years.
The acquisition of European Trucking
After a difficult year for everybody, a new opportunity came. We acquired European Trucking on the 6th of January. Within 24 hours all our new colleagues were working in the BoekestijnGądki office, and our fleet grew from 300 to 400 trucks. The Boekestijn developed TMS system played a big part in the smooth transition.
Covid 19
A pandemic never seen before arrives. Week by week, the danger came closer and from one day to another borders close and people needed to stay home. A tragedy for the whole economy, but especially international transport.
A new office in Moldova and a new start in Ukraine and Sweden
By now, the Moldovan office has developed into a driving school, recruitment center, driver care office and shared service center. Those functions, vital to the entire organization, required a more professional workspace for our Chisinau Colleagues. To strengthen the growing number of Ukrainian colleagues, we open supporting offices in Lviv, Kiev, Dnipro and Odessa. To increase our Scandinavian trucking portfolio, we open a sales office in Sweden.
Russian invasion of Ukraine
On the 24th of Febuary 2022, Russia invades Ukraine. This brings insecurity for everybody around the world, but especially for the people of Ukraine. Having 4 offices and 500 collegues in Ukraine, we intiated several support programs to provide much needed help.
Moving into Żerniki
